<p><em>We're in the home stretch of development...the developers are developing, the servers are serving, and the databases are... databasing? As of this morning and for the next few days, we have one massive group chat open with the intent of resolving issues, fighting fires, and generally providing moral support where we can. For those of you in the technical know, you may be able to extrapolate a launch date. Keep that to yourself for now. Let us announce it. ;)</em> </p><p><strong>Unfortunately, on Monday of this week, we discovered a huge problem with this release.</strong></p><p>Despite the monumental time, effort, and planning that has gone into this... despite the ceaseless drumbeat of days passing, the AWS deadline approaching, and the work flying... despite the loss of sleep, the caffeine consumed, and the regular calls on Skype, it was still there.. or should I say it wasn't there?</p><p><em>We didn't have a name.</em></p><p>Sure, we could call it v1.0 but who gets excited about that? </p><p>Sure, we could call it "yea! now we can sleep", but that doesn't quite roll off the tongue.</p><p>We kicked around a number of ideas from the intellectual to the silly and themes covering accomplishment, grandeur, and inspiration. </p><p><em>Eventually, we chose a simple name: <strong>Columbus</strong>.</em></p><p>As in the explorer, not the city in Ohio.</p> <p>Columbus is known for bucking conventional wisdom, taking the biggest risk imaginable and credited with discovering the New World.
