Out with the Truth: Late for My Handshake (MashMeet REMIX)

true You know you are surrounded by amazing people when all of them have the opportunity to spread something which was pretty hilarious, but potentially damaging all over Twitter and they don’t. (Love you guys and thanks)Let’s recap my late afternoon and evening from yesterday…I had a 5pm meeting in DC with <a href="http://www.bethechangeinc.org/">Be the Change, Inc.</a> not going to give the specific details of the meeting but it was a good meeting and Tim and <a href="http://www.makembe.com/">Henri</a> are great guys. I do hope to collaborate with them down the road.  I got out of the meeting a little after 6pm – I had already made plans to connect with Keith before MashMeet REMIX which was starting at 7pm.  When I checked my phone Keith had already sent me a text message of where he was and that he was with a few other people.  So I walked a few blocks (right past where MashMeet was being hosted) and met up with Keith.  Upon walking in I saw that Keith was with <a href="http://technosailor.com/about/">Aaron</a>.  I had a bone to pick (thoughts and comments to share) with Aaron about his <a href="http://technosailor.com/2008/03/05/thoughts-on-investment-and-incubation/">post</a> from that day. Also present was <a href="http://marketingconversation.com/">Jonathan</a> and <a href="http://twitter.com/batterista">Andrew</a> (better known as Battersita on twitter) and shortly after <a href="http://eastcoastblogging.com/">Jimmy</a> and<a href="http://www.shashi.name/"> Shashi </a>arrived.  Anyway…Keith, Aaron and I got into a good discussion.  Drinks and food came.  At some point I asked what time it was and Aaron said it was around 7pm...but that you don’t show up at an event like this on time.  However, my gut was telling me there was a reason I was suppose to be on time…I know better than to ignore my gut but the conversation was really good. Around 7:23ish it hit me like a lighting bolt…”Oh sh$%t I have a handshake for MashMeet…and I’m the one who has the ticket”. At this point everyone is laughing (to include Keith) I took some money out of my wallet $10 for my $4.20 check and dashed out the door. I checked my messages and called Ken – My Handshake right away.  Long story short, Ken was forgiven and he was nice enough to not mention it in his <a href="http://blog.thelettertwo.com/2008/03/06/mashing-and-shaking/">blog post</a> about last night. Ken was a cool guy to have as a Handshake. He is easy going, funny and a good mingler. So no one outted me…but you guys know me; I keep little to no secrets. I’m really glad it turned out well.  I felt awful but the irony was funny.   As for MashMeet REMIX itself…splendid event and I had a fabulous time last night.  Pretty much everyone there to include <a href="http://www.livingstonbuzz.com/blog/">Geoff</a>, Robert and his awesome wife Julia of <a href="http://www.jobmatchbox.com/">JobMatchBox</a>, <a href="http://www.technotheory.com/">Jared</a>, <a href="http://drinkingoatmealstout.com/">Justin</a>, <a href="http://www.thedcconcierge.com/">Shana</a>, <a href="http://www.socialtimes.com/">Nick</a>, <a href="http://twitter.com/greggersh">Greg</a>, <a href="http://15meanings.com/">Will</a>, <a href="http://www.istrategylabs.com/">Peter</a>…well more people than I can name. I missed the presentations but the mingling was great. Met two new entrepreneurs in the area Dave Wilkinson of <a href="http://www.upguppy.com/">UpGuppy</a> and Ryan Spahn of <a href="http://sleep.fm/">Sleep.fm</a>.  At the after party I got to meet <a href="http://my.mashable.com/pete">Pete Cashmore</a> but my favorite at <a href="http://mashable.com/">Mashable</a> is our local VA guy <a href="http://my.mashable.com/adam">Adam Ostrow</a> whom I originally met at the Social Times party. Adam is a really down to earth kind of guy and a solid entrepreneur. I was bummed I didn't get to meet <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rizzn">Mark "Rizzn" Hopkins</a>...from the <a href="http://mashable.com/2008/02/28/podcast-whygosolo/">podcast</a> we did.   When I got home and logged back online the whole WhyGoSolo team was online – this is around 1am this morning. I decided that this aspect of the start-up world is a lot of fun and in our own way we all get to feel like rock stars!! MashMeet, Completed Handshake, DC startup community, Entrepreneurship
